Job Description

Lead and Scale the UK’s National Field Delivery Engine as Head of Field Operations

Transforming how the UK manages complex blue and green infrastructure assets, we combine market-leading SaaS, surveying, drainage maintenance, and advisory services to help local authorities understand, prioritise, and maintain critical networks, from drainage and highways to trees and greenspace.

We are the UK’s leading provider of drainage and infrastructure asset management software, supporting over 40% of local authorities in England. As demand for our field services continues to grow, we are seeking a senior operational leader to scale nationwide delivery and modernise operations through technology, data, and smarter ways of working.

Head of Field Operations Role

This is a senior leadership role with genuine strategic ownership and hands-on involvement. You will set the direction for our national field operations, build and lead a high-performing delivery organisation, and ensure our services scale efficiently and profitably.

We are a tech-enabled operations business. You will be comfortable using systems, data, and automation to deliver high-quality outcomes, and will work closely with Product, Sales, and Customer Success to strengthen the connection between field insight and our SaaS platform — and vice versa.

You’ll remain close to the frontline, taking a visible leadership role in hiring, coaching, and supporting managers, and stepping into operational problem-solving when required.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and evolve the national operational strategy for surveying, drainage maintenance, and wider field services
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams across drainage surveying, drainage maintenance, and tree/greenspace surveying
  • Build and scale the organisation, personally overseeing key hires and developing high-performing managers
  • Partner with Sales on scoping, pricing, and mobilisation to ensure commercially sound and deliverable work
  • Use technology and data to drive performance across scheduling, utilisation, quality assurance, insight capture, and reporting
  • Embed best-in-class health & safety, compliance, and operational standards while maintaining a practical, customer-first approach
  • Continuously improve service models and unit economics, including productivity, cost-to-serve, rework, and margins

What You’ll Bring

  • Senior operational leadership experience in surveying, highways maintenance, or field-based services, ideally at national or multi-regional scale
  • A tech-savvy, data-led mindset with confidence using SaaS platforms, field technology, KPIs, and automation
  • Proven success scaling dispersed field teams with strong safety, quality, and customer experience standards
  • Strong understanding of Local Authority highways and infrastructure environments, with stakeholder credibility
  • Commercial ownership, with experience improving margins, utilisation, or delivery economics
  • A leadership style that balances strategic thinking with practical, on-the-ground execution
  • Experience in trees or greenspace operations is desirable but not essential

Why Us

  • We prioritise flexibility, trust, and long-term growth. Our benefits are designed to support a balanced and fulfilling working environment:
  • Unlimited SMART Leave – flexible time off to support work–life balance
  • Flexible SMART Working – options including a 4-day week, flexi-time, and remote working
  • Supportive, high-trust culture – collaborative, friendly, and focused on personal and professional development
  • This is a home-based role with significant national travel to customer sites and operational teams, requiring strong self-management and autonomy.

Benefits Include:

  • Additional leave
  • Company pension
  • Flexitime
  • Unlimited paid holidays
  • Work from home
